Izzo surges to top of latest power rankings
The Spartans' victories over Wisconsin and Iowa last week helped make Izzo the new No. 1 coach in the Rivals.com College Basketball Power Rankings, which measure the nation's top performers at each position.
Izzo's rise to the top of the power rankings highlighted an eventful week for Big Ten teams in the power rankings.
Ohio State's Evan Turner returned to the power rankings following his return to the court after missing more than a month with broken bones in his lower back. Turner had been rated as the No. 1 small forward before the injury caused him to exit the power rankings. He returns as the No. 2 small forward, behind Syracuse's Wesley Johnson.
While Turner moved back into the power rankings, Wisconsin's Jon Leuer moved out. Leuer fractured his left wrist Saturday against Purdue and is out indefinitely. He will be removed from the power forward rankings until he returns to action.
Izzo's move represented the only change at the top of the power rankings. Johnson, Kentucky point guard John Wall, Purdue shooting guard E'Twaun Moore, Notre Dame power forward Luke Harangody and Kansas center Cole Aldrich remain atop their respective positions. Wall also maintained his status as the nation's No. 1 freshman.
The current rankings considered performances through Sunday's games. The rankings measure overall career performances as well as the results of the past week.
