Monday Basketball Notebook

WireGet breaking news on your cell phone!

After being sidelined with a knee injury, C.J. Henry is finally cleared by the training staff to play in a game. Although according to Bill Self, don't expect him to make his debut tomorrow night against Memphis in St. Louis.

"He still hasn't made it through a practice yet, of course we are going to see how he does today but he is feeling a little bit better," Self said. "He practiced a majority of the time yesterday. Although I don't think I will put him out there unless I feel like he is close to being 100 percent."

Even if he doesn't play in tomorrow's game, the matchup with Memphis will have a little more meaning for C.J. as he goes up against his former team. He has kept in touch with his old teammates and has spent the last week trading barbs with them over the phone.

"It will be like playing AAU ball since I know most of the players on the other team," Henry said. "It makes it more competitive."

C.J. of course isn't the only one who could've been playing for Memphis this season. His brother Xavier Henry had committed to them before switching to Kansas after former Memphis coach John Calipari left for Kentucky.

"It is not really a big thing for me," Xavier said. "I am more just excited for the plane trip over there so I can get some sleep."

Releford talks about redshirt

It was announced on Friday that sophomore guard Travis Releford would redshirt this season along with senior forward Mario Little. Releford said he got advice from guard Brady Morningstar, who redshirted two seasons ago.

"[Brady] said it was one of the best decision that has ever made," Releford said.

Releford said he will focus more on individual workouts and strength training now that he doesn't have to prepare for games.

Releford thinks he has a chance to start on next year's team.

"I didn't think it would be this hard," Releford said on trying to find playing time. "I didn't think it was going to be easy either. You just have to work."

Self on Memphis

Self on the new Memphis offense: "It is different. Their interchangeable parts on the perimeter certainly create problems. They guard ball screens differently. It will come down to if we are patient enough to give them a chance to breakdown and be able to handle the ball long enough in their possessions to see if we can get it inside."
