Smith finally makes Bulldog debut

It is hard to believe but Tobias Smith made his Mississippi State debut this past Saturday.

The 6-foot-3, 300-pound redshirt freshman is one of the Bulldogs most promising young offensive linemen but has been plagued by two ankle injuries that have prevented him from playing until this past week against Georgia Tech.

Smith was making a push for a starting job as a true freshman last year before going down with a season-ending ankle injury in a preseason scrimmage. He also suffered another injury to his opposite ankle during fall camp but luckily was not as severe but it did keep him out until last week.

With all the practice time he has put in, everything felt natural to Smith when his name was called to go in against the Yellow Jackets on Satuday.

"I've been practicing for so long without playing that it was rather easy," Smith said. "I was pretty prepared. Our coaches prepared me well. He made sure he didn't put me out there too early. I wasn't nervous at all. It was all excitement."

Smith's only regret on the day was that the Bulldogs were unable to come away with the victory. He admits he would have traded his playing time in for a win.

"It felt good to play but I would've rather not played and won than played and lost," Smith said.

Smith's first live action was nothing out of the ordinary. He feels that working every day against MSU's defensive front made the transition rather easy.
