Bumphis boosts Bulldogs offense

Chad Bumphis was expected to come in and make an immediate impact for Mississippi State's offense.

The true freshman receiver proved what a weapon he can be hauling in two touchdown catches in his first game as a Bulldog. The 5-foot-10, 195-pounder has played in all three games this season earning one start catching six passes for 45 yards and a pair of scores.

"This is pretty much what I expected," Bumphis said. "It's a little more to handle. The offense isn't complicated it's just different from what I'm used to. But once you learn it, it's really easy."

Bumphis only touched the ball three times in his MSU debut against Jackson State but turned two of those plays into touchdown grabs of 15 and 7-yards respectively.

"That first catch I just went blank," Bumphis said after the game. "It was real big for the team. That was the way we wanted to start the season. My whole body went numb. I saw the open field and I pretty much forgot all the technique I've been taught like tucking the ball away and I'm sure I will hear about that.
