Dwyer checks ego at the door

Pre-season ACC player of the year, pre-season All-American, Doak Walker Award watch list, and Walter Camp national player of the year watch list. A laundry list like that could make someone's head swell bigger than the sun, but not Jonathan Dwyer.

"Some guys let that stuff get to their heads, but my parents have always kept me humble and my teammates as well," he said.
"All of the accolades that I've gotten are good, but mainly we're focusing on the team and if they're doing good, I'm going to play good"

Georgia Tech enters the season ranked number 15 by the Coach's Poll, their highest ranking to begin a season since 2001. As a team, they also have high aspirations now that they have a year of Coach Paul Johnson's offensive system under their belts.

According to Dwyer, "our team goals are to most definitely win an ACC Championship, be a BCS contender and be undefeated at home. We want to do better at what we did last year, we do not want to let games slip away and we want to play every game like it is our last."

This do or die attitude has rubbed off on the Georgia Tech community as well. Last year fans were excited to see the new offense and at the same time curious to see how effective it would be. After such a successful season, fans are now confident and expect to win. Dwyer cites the change in the community as his favorite part about being a Yellow Jacket.

"We have a swagger on the team and confidence," he said. "I know that when the offense goes out on the field, we are going to produce some points and make big plays. When the defense is on the field, I believe that Morgan Burnett and the list goes on, they are going to stop them and make big plays. We believe in our kicker, Scott Blair, and our coaches. That is the difference around the whole campus; we're going to have a lot more fans this year, bigger games, and bigger crowds."

The fans will not have to wait long, as the season is only 16 days away and counting…
