McCain opens camp in new role
Andrew McCain opens camp Wednesday from an unknown standpoint.
Over the past three years, when August practice began it meant trying to chase down a teammate in attempt to earn a starting position. This year McCain has earned his way to the top of the depth chart through spring practice and summer workouts.
"It's a different approach. I'd say there's still a certain amount of pressure that I put on myself," McCain said. "In years past maybe I was trying to beat somebody out or something like that, but this year I've got just as many people trying to beat me out. It's a different place to be in and it's exciting and it's a good change."
Though the Tigers lost two starting offensive linemen from last year's team, four of this year's starters started at least five games in 2008.
McCain, a senior, has never started a game.
Despite having seemingly secured a spot as the starting right tackle, though, McCain said he is feeling some nerves.
