Versatile Heritage star has a favorite

As players from across the state start planning visits and deciding what camps they want to attend, one school has emerged as the definite favorite for Heritage High two-way standout Garry Peters - Alabama.

"They're definitely my favorite right now," said Peters, who told UGASports that he communicates frequently with Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban.

Recruited as a defensive back, Peters said he will play a variety of positions for Heritage this fall, alternating between cornerback and safety on defense while serving as the starting quarterback on the offensive side.

"Some schools have said I'm good enough to play both (offense and defense)," Peters said. "But I think I'll be playing defensive back once I get to college."

At 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, Peters said he's added 10 pounds to his frame in the recent weeks.

"I've been trying to gain some weight, but I've kept my speed so nobody needs to worry about that," Peters said. "I've been wanting to get a little bit bigger."

Peters indicated he could be making a decision soon.

Along with the Crimson Tide, Peters has 14 other offers, including ones from Auburn, Tennessee, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.

Georgia has yet to make an offer, although Peters - who attended last week's Mark Richt Camp in Athens - said he still communicates with Bulldogs defensive coordinator Willie Martinez on a regular basis.

Peters said he still hopes to see Florida and Oklahoma before making his final decision, but that said could come soon.

"My parents have let me make the decision," he said. "But I'll get together with my coaches; we'll talk things over and come to a final decision then."
