Talented defensive end picks up first offer
One of the hottest names in recruiting for a good portion of the spring was Homewood (Ala.) High School defensive end Anthony Wilson. Wilson blew up out of near obscurity following some incredibly impressive camp performances. With worlds of upside Wilson just started to realize his potential this spring and now at least one other school realizes it too.
"Southern Miss offered me a scholarship," Wilson said. "I think it was Friday when I checked the mail and I got the letter and they offered me a full scholarship and said that I could commit whenever I want."
For Wilson, it was his first offer and he was thrilled with the news.
"I was real happy because it was my first offer and I was waiting to see when it was going to come," he said. "It came earlier than I thought. I talk to the coaches pretty much all the time. I'm going to the camp in a few weeks so I pretty much know about the school."
Not only is Wilson excited about the Southern Miss offer because it is his first offer to arrive but he is also excited about the opportunities that Larry Fedora's staff is presenting to him.
"They give me a chance freshman year to come in and make an impact," he said. "As soon as I come to school they'll give me a chance to help them a lot so that's a pretty big option."
While Southern Miss is the first offer in for Wilson, he is also receiving serious interest from Alabama, Auburn, LSU, UCLA and Oklahoma.
"They call me but they say that I can call them as much as I want and all of them, they hand write me letters and stuff and tell me they're interested in me and want me to come to their camps and stuff. They want me to come visit when I get the chance."
