Warren Central is led by Hart in 2009

With quarterback Dan LeFevour and his school passing records leaving next year, the Central Michigan football program is looking to add a signal caller to the class of 2010. In CMU's offense, any quarterback can succeed, and although the Chippewas would like to add a dual threat quarterback in the mold of LeFevour, don't rule out a pocket quarterback.

A pocket quarterback is just what Warren Central (IN) signal caller Derek Hart is. Hart may not be the most mobile, but he has arm strength to boot and he has the size at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds that coaches look for. Last year he showed flashes, leading Warren Central to a 9-4 record last year while throwing for 1450 yards and 21 touchdowns against 9 interceptions. A tumultuous season that included a forfeited game from playing an ineligible player ended with a loss to Ben Davis in the Indiana 5A playoffs. Next year looks to be different.

"We want to be much more disciplined than last year and win a state championship. That's our goal next year" added Hart on Warren Central's goal for next season.

Hart does not hold an offer from CMU or any Division 1 school at the moment, but that is clearly a goal of his going into his senior campaign.

"Individually, I'd like to get a Division 1 scholarship and be All-State".

Louisville, Western Michigan, Indiana, Purdue, Ball State and Eastern Michigan are among the schools Hart is hearing from.

"Louisville is probably the most interested. I'm heading down to a 7 on 7 their next weekend and they said if I have a good showing, I'll probably get an offer" said Hart.

Warren Central incorporates a type of spread offense like CMU, and Hart can relate to that.

"I like the spread, it's what we run here. We don't run the quarterback as much as Central Michigan though".

While CMU appears to be more focused on quarterbacks who are dual threats, and offer from CMU would still intrigue Hart.

"I would really like it. I don't know if I would be the best fit for me in that offense, but it would definitely open some doors in my recruitment. If an offer came from CMU, I would definitely consider it though".

Playing for Warren Central has its perks however. There are talented athletes everywhere, including potential D-1 players Skakir Bell, Auri Durrett, Elijah Jones, Jerry Boyd and James Manuel.

"It's great playing with those guys, I get a lot of college exposure from them and just playing with talented athletes like them is a pleasure" added Hart on the ultra-talented Warren Central roster.

CMU has been making inroads in the state of Indiana, grabbing Jarrett Fleming, Bobby James and Aaron Kaczmarski from the Hoosier state in 2009. Now the CMU coaching staff is looking to dip into the well for 2010.

"CMU coaches were actually in here last week" commented Hart.

"I really like their coaching staff, they are real straightforward and that's what I like the most".

Warren Central is primed for a strong year behind its talented roster and successful head coach John Hart (Derek's father). Look for more on them and their talented gunslinger Derek Hart in the future and as always, stick to ChippewaCountry.com for the latest in CMU athletics and recruiting.
