Shaw: ND in the lead

Josh Shaw has the offer he's been waiting on.

The 6-foot, 165-pound cornerback from Palmdale, Calif., received an offer from Notre Dame on Thursday; eight days after Irish assistant Brian Polian visited him at Palmdale High School.

It didn't take many words for Shaw to sum up his feelings about the Irish.

"This is by far the best one yet of all the offers I have," Shaw said. "This one is by far the best . That's the one I've pretty much been waiting on and it's here so I'm excited."

Shaw didn't stop there. He also said that rather than putting Notre Dame near the top of his list, he'd put them "in the lead" over such as Cal, which also offered Thursday, Washington, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Arizona, among others.

Shaw said he'll visit Notre Dame during the summer, perhaps the first week of August. He also wants to make his official visit during the weekend of the USC game, which is Oct. 17.

The three-star prospect said he will visit Washington, Tennessee and Oklahoma as well.

Shaw has already been to South Bend once. He took in last year's game against San Diego State at Notre Dame Stadium with his family. Justin Shaw, brother of the three-star cornerback, played for the Aztecs.

It turns out that watching from the stands made a big impact on the rapidly rising athlete and his family. Now it's clear that Notre Dame is standing out as a result.

"It's a school I've always had high interest in," Shaw said. "I've always been a Notre Dame fan, so that only helps. And with their situation, they haven't brought in too many secondary guys in the last couple years. So, I know this year it's pretty crucial for them."

Shaw said the potential to play early during his college career would impact his decision. He doesn't have a timetable for making a final decision set.
