Spring Tour: Cardinal Gibbons

On Wednesday afternoon our spring tour stopped by Cardinal Gibbons High School to watch their practice. They are coming off of a 6-5 season that ended with a first round playoff loss to Miami Pace. Here is a look at some of their top prospects.

Class of 2010 prospects:

Shawn Corker - 6 foot 1, 185-pounds - Wide Receiver

Corker is a physical receiver with good speed. The play of the day was when caught a pass and ran over the safety for a big game. He currently has offers from Miami, Texas Tech, Purdue, FIU and a host of others.

Dareyon Chance - 5 foot 5, 160-pounds - Running Back

Chance is the emotional leader for Gibbons. He has early offers from Central Michigan and Toledo. Chance is an explosive kick returner and showed excellent hands coming out of the back field to make several difficult catches.

Garrett Smith - 5 foot 9, 160-pounds - Cornerback

Smith has seen his recruitment really pick up as schools have seen him this spring. Reportedly Cincinnati, who was at practice Wednesday, was going to offer him. Smith plays bigger than his height because he has long arms.

Jarael Watson - 6 foot 1, 200-pounds - Linebacker

Watson is a returning starter at linebacker that has been getting some division 1 interest. Northern Illinois was at practice watching his every move.

Class of 2011 prospects:

Tim Burton - 5 foot 8, 155-pounds - Cornerback

Burton started at one corner last fall opposite Smith. He is getting ready for a busy summer circuit visiting college campuses.

Tanner Motta - 6 foot, 190-pounds - Defensive End

Motta is an undersized defensive end that will probably have to make the transition to linebacker in college. He was one of Cardinal Gibbons' most productive players last fall.

Bobby Hart - 6 foot 3, 260-pounds - Defensive Tackle

Hart had to miss practice on this day, but he is definitely someone to watch. He went 31-4 this winter wrestling heavyweight and made it to state.

A name to remember for 2012 is Erick Hallmon. The 6 foot, 190-pound Hallmon started 6 games last fall as a freshman at linebacker and was a special teams demon all year. He has a chance to be special.

Cardinal Gibbons takes on North Broward Prep next Wednesday at 4pm in their spring game.
