Signee Profile: In-state LB sticks with AU
Bessemer (Ala.) Academy
6-foot-3, 225 pounds
Gaston was one of Auburn's earliest commitments in the 2009 class giving his pledge to the Tigers a full 10 months before signing day. Although Auburn suffered through a 5-7 season, just two of those wins coming in the SEC, and a coaching change in December, Gaston stuck with the Tigers and now plans to be on the Plains as soon as possible. AuburnSports.com spoke Gaston about his commitment to Auburn, if he was close to playing against the Tigers and not for them and much more in the sixth of our profile stories of the 2009 signees.
On his workout regime: "I'm mainly doing lower body because I have a limit on what I can lift on my upper body. I hurt my shoulder my senior year. I had surgery in November, but it's been doing great. I can lift over the amount that they are telling me to lift, but I don't want overdo it. It's doing good, though."
You say you're at 225 now, how much do you want to weigh when you report to Auburn? "225. I feel good about my weight. I feel like if they want me to add any, I can do it when I get there."
When do you plan to move to Auburn? "I believe it's June 21, but I'd like to move down there in time to start the first summer semester (classes begin May 21). I could do that. My graduation is on the 19th and I would really like to go ahead and get started as soon as possible."
You committed early to Auburn and the former staff. How difficult was it for you, the transition to the new staff so late in the recruiting process? "The whole thing was crazy. I really didn't know what I was going to do, but I had to understand that it's a job. People come and go. But I had gotten to know Coach (Terry) Price real well. I really liked him. One of the reasons I knew Auburn was the place for me was because Coach Price told me it was. After he left, or while he was leaving, he told me that he still thought Auburn was the right place for me. That meant a lot."
