Three-star big man to visit MSU
With the basketball signing period opening back up today, Mississippi State is still holding one scholarship and are hoping to get another big man on campus.
The Bulldogs will entertain 6-foot-9, 230-pound power forward Wendell Lewis this weekend as the Selma, Ala., native comes for his fifth and final official visit.
The three-star prospect was once a Middle Tennessee commitment and has already taken official visits to Auburn, Western Kentucky, Troy and South Alabama.
It will not be Lewis' first trip to Starkville. He stated that he has been to several basketball camps at MSU but has been invited by the Bulldog coaching staff to get the full experience.
"(The coaches) came to my house and told me what all I'm going to be doing," Lewis said. "They said they were going to show me the style of play that they do, around campus, show me the academics, how the tutoring thing goes and show me where I'm supposed to live at in the dorms. They told me they have kind of activity going on the weekend, Super Bulldog Weekend. They said there was going to be baseball, football and a whole lot of stuff going on."
Lewis has been impressed with what State has to offer and their reputation for producing talent in the low post.
"They've got a great program," Lewis said of Mississippi State. "They are known for big men and post players. I like the coaches. The coaches are very nice. I don't know too much else but when I go down there this week I'm going to learn a lot."
One other thing Lewis is certain of is the lessons he can learn playing beside Bulldog senior center Jarvis Varnado. He said he could take a few pointers from the two-time Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
