2009 signee update: Johnthan Banks

It has been nearly a year since East Webster Johnthan Banks gave his commitment to Mississippi State.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound wide receiver was one of the first commitments the Bulldogs picked up in the 2009 class. Even after MSU made a coaching change Banks stayed true to his pledge and inked on national signing day.

"It was a big relief for me and my family," Banks said. "During the recruiting process everybody was talking about the coaching change and all that. People were talking to me about changing my mind and trying to get a scholarship to other places but I knew the whole time where I wanted to play college football at. In my mind nothing changed."

The multi-talented Banks played quarterback, safety and returner for the Wolverines this past season leading them to a perfect regular season and 12-1 overall. After football season was complete , Banks helped the East Webster basketball team reach the playoffs again but decided not to play baseball this season in order to concentrate in the classroom in his final semester.

"I've just been catching up on my grades and getting my grades up," Banks said. "I'm just trying to catch up in my classes. I'm one class away so I'm just a couple of weeks away. I'm trying to pull my ACT up but I'm mainly focused on these two classes that I am taking and I'm doing pretty good in those two right now. The coaches have been on me everyday about my grades."

Banks believes that him signing with State will help some of the underclassmen at Class 1A East Webster to reach their potential.
