Roof discusses linebacker signees

Auburn's defense returns nine players that have started at least six games but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of opportunities for former backups or incoming players to make an impact this fall.

One of the positions that probably needs the most help is at linebacker where AU returns starters Craig Stevens and Josh Bynes, but has very little proven depth behind them.

That should give junior college signee Eltoro Freeman, who enrolled at Auburn in January, a great opportunity to push for a starting position when spring drills get underway Mar. 24.

"(Freeman) is an aggressive guy who plays downhill," AU defensive coordinator Ted Roof said. "I think he's going to be fun to coach. He's got a lot of personality and a lot of zest for the game."

Auburn is also expected to bring in two linebacker signees this summer in Jonathan Evans, younger brother of former AU linebacker Chris Evans, and Harris Gaston.
