Davis knows academics key in recruiting
Though he shined as perhaps the most physically-imposing defensive player Sunday in Miami at the Badger Sports Skills Camp, Darius Davis knows he must do a lot more to gain the attention of colleges.
Actually, Davis has already gotten the attention of many schools, including the University of Tennessee, which already has been sending the 6-foot, 210-pound linebacker some correspondence. But it's in the classroom where Davis' current emphasis rests.
"Well, schools aren't able to contact me too much right now because of my SAT and grades, but I've just got to wait and get that SAT score and then they've said they'll start talking to me more," Davis said. "I've gotten a lot of letters from a lot of colleges. I've got a lot from Tennessee, a lot from them."
Davis said Tennessee's interest has made an impact in whether or not he might try to make the trek to Knoxville and check out the Vols' facilities.
"That's on my mind, yeah (taking an unofficial visit/trip to see the UT campus). That's definitely on my mind. You never know. I'm looking at a lot of colleges."
While Davis at times showed an overpowering presence at the line of scrimmage in Sunday's Badger Sports Skills Camp in jamming receivers at the line, the confident Davis doesn't feel his skill set is limited to one strength.
"Everything, everything if you ask me," Davis said of what he brings to the table. "Pass coverage, everything."
Davis, who runs track at Dr. Krop High School in Miami to bolster his football agility and endurance, felt he more than held his own at Sunday's event.
"It was a good experience," Davis, who runs the 200- and 400-meter races, said of the camp. "I really didn't see nothing I hadn't seen, that impressed me, but I kept my attitude and did my best. I was on my game, on top of my game."
And if Davis can soon say the same about his efforts in the classroom, he'll certainly have more colleges checking out his game.
