Hometown product McKenzie signs on

While most recruits are trying to decide between which football program they want to play for, Johnathan McKenzie had another choice to make.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder from Starkville, Miss., was trying to make the decision between following in his father's footsteps and playing for his hometown Bulldogs or taking the academic route to college.

McKenzie holds a perfect 4.0 GPA and notched a 27 on his ACT.

But in the end football eventually won out but that does not mean he will not be focusing in the classroom in the fall.

"Academics are still very important to me," McKenzie said. "I just decided that playing football at Mississippi State was an opportunity I just couldn't pass up. I love football and I think it's worth it. There are a lot worse things I could be doing with my free time."
