McKenzie takes an abbreviated visit

Johnathan McKenzie admits he may not get the full experience on his weekend visit but after all does he really need it?

The Starkville, Miss., hometown product did not show up for his official visit until today due to a basketball game Friday night and will have to leave around 2 p.m. today for another one.

But abbreviated as his visit will be, McKenzie will not be seeing anything on campus that he has not seen plenty of times over.

"I'm very excited about (my visit)," McKenzie said. "I won't be able to get there until (this) morning because we play Indianola in basketball and I will have to leave by 2 p.m. because I have another basketball game so I probably won't get the full experience. But I already have a pretty good feeling about my decision."

The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder is the son of former MSU standout Duncan McKenzie who is now an associate athletic director at the university. While he has been around campus and visited with the coaches on several occasions, this weekend will be different.

"I just want to get to know the players better and the guys that are coming in to visit this weekend," McKenzie said. "I also need to get to know the new coaches better."

McKenzie committed to the Bulldogs on Dec. 20 after struggling with the decision to either play football or go the academic route. He holds a 4.0 GPA and scored a 27 on his ACT and was also heavily recruited by several Ivy League schools.
