Spartans get 4-star linebacker

Earlier this afternoon at a press conference at Livonia Clarenceville High School, 4-star linebacker Jeremy Gainer made his intentions known to join the Michigan State Spartans. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Gainer selected the Spartans over the Minnesota Golden Gophers. In addition to the Spartans and Gophers, Gainer also had offers from Kansas State, Indiana, Iowa, Cincinnati and Colorado.

Gainer is rated the #15 outside linebacker in the nation by Rivals.com. He is also rated the #13 player in Michigan for the class of 2009 by SpartanMag.com and Rivals.com. Spartanmag.com will be updating its in-state rankings next week and it is very possible that Gainer could move up a few spots based on his strong senior year.

Gainer will be taking his official visit to Michigan State on January 9th with a host of other members of the Spartans recruiting class.

The commitment of Gainer will likely bump the Spartans up a notch or two in the national rankings. Prior to Gainer's commitment the Spartans were ranked 16th in the nation and 3rd in the Big Ten.
Spartanmag.ocm will have more on Gainer and his commitment, including quotes from the newest member of the class of 2009 later tonight.
