Postin' Up with Cookie Miller

In this week's edition of Postin' Up, we sit down with sophomore point guard Cookie Miller. So far this season, Miller is averaging 5.9 points and a team-high 4.5 assists per game for the Huskers.

HI:First off, tell me the story behind how you got the nickname "Cookie"?

CM: "Man, I've been getting it confused, to be completely honest with you. Stuff that I've been saying hasn't been right, so I guess y'all are just going to have to interview my dad."

HI: I notice you've got a Cookie Monster tattoo on your arm there. When did you get that?

CM: "Man, I got that when I was young. I'm not going to say I regret it, but it was something that was in fashion that I really wanted to do at the time. But I mean it's there, and I can't take it off."

HI: How many tattoos would you say you have?

CM: "I think 10."

HI: What's the last one you got?

CM: "My mom and my dad's initials (on the front of his left and right biceps, respectively)"

HI: You've played with some pretty big names over the years with guys like O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker. Looking back on your career, who's the best player you've ever played with or against?

CM: "Playing with, it would have to be O.J. and Bill, because day in and day out, they came with it. Regardless of if we was playing open gym or running two-on-two, they were just so into it regardless of the situation. As for an opponent, I'd have to say Eric Gordon, who plays for the Clippers now. He was so strong, and it didn't look like he had quickness because he looked kind of fat, but he was quick, strong, and he could dribble the ball. He's the toughest man that I ever had to play against."

HI: Of all the players on this team, who's the one guy who thinks he has the most game with the ladies but actually doesn't?

CM: "(Laughs) You're going to put me with that one? Oh man. That's a tough one right there. Man, I don't know. Can I get some input on this one?"

HI: Sure, go for it.

CM: "(Calls over redshirt freshman Brandon Richardson) Hey B, come here man. Hey, who thinks they have chicks on the team but really don't and be frontin'? Balham?"

Richardson: "Pssh, 32. Balham."

CM: "So there you go, Balham. Chris Balham would be the one who thinks he got it but he don't. That's coming from Brandon Richardson."

Balham, who happened to be sitting in the background: "Come on, man! Why you gotta call me out! He's a liar, man!"

CM: (Laughs) "Yeah, Chris Balham."

HI: Not sure if you knew this, but Oregon State's head coach is the brother-in-law of President-elect Barack Obama. Are you going to give him any congratulations or anything when you guys play them on Saturday?

CM: "Nah, I didn't know that. I hope Obama's there, but I'm going to treat it like any other game. That's great to hear, but I'm going to treat it like any other game."

HI: Last year you cut your braids after how long of growing them out?

CM: "Oh man, I'd say like three and a half years, maybe going on four when I did it. To this day I regret it. I want them back. But it is what it is."

HI: I heard you did it as a Christmas present to your mom?

CM: "Yeah, it was. It really was. She always wanted me from Day 1 to cut my hair. Right now, she wants me to cut my hair. But I think I'm going to go ahead and grow it back out."

HI: What was her reaction when you finally cut your hair?

CM: "Her eyes were so big, big smile. She grabbed and hugged me, feeling all over my head. Just to see her smile though, that was lovely to see."

HI: How are you going to follow that up this year?

CM: "I don't know. I guess I'll just have to stick with a present. I can't really go with the hairdo this year."
