Burkhead into recruitment now that season is over

Many uncommitted senior prospects do not want to interrupt a playoff run to deal with recruiting. Instead, they wait until the end of their senior season in order to start taking official visits and everything else associated with late recruiting.

Plano running back Rex Burkhead has been no exception to this way of thinking as he has taken just one official visit, to Nebraska, earlier this season.

He has, however, taken unofficial visits to Texas and Texas A&M. Otherwise, he's focused on being the best teammate he can be by playing running back, receiver, defensive back and special teams. He's rushed for 1,762 yards, caught 42 passes for 594 yards and scored 33 touchdowns in leading the Wildcats to the second round of the Class 5A Division I playoffs.

However, with a 42-35 loss to Euless Trinity last weekend, Burkhead's high school football career is over and he and his family can begin the recruiting process in earnest. They'll do so this week by hosting in-home visits from coaches at four different schools.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound four-star prospect has scholarship offers from Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Stanford, Nebraska, Auburn, California, Louisville, Michigan, Ole Miss and Virginia.
