Pybus making most of opportunity

He was the last 2008 signee to pick up an offer and probably the last true freshman anyone expected to play for Auburn this season.

But Spencer Pybus has played in every game this season including a long stint at strongside linebacker against No. 5 LSU.

Last Saturday was quite a night for the long-time Auburn fan.

"It's wonderful, from walking down Tiger Walk to warm-ups with everybody there and everything. It's just a wonderful experience," Pybus said.

"It was loud. I was a little nervous but I just tried to stay clam and focus and stick to the basics of what they teach me."

Just over seven months ago Pybus was wondering if he'd have a shot at playing D-I football. His only offer was from North Alabama but that all changed the day before Signing Day.

Pybus picked up an offer from Duke that morning. About 10 minutes later, Auburn followed with another offer. It didn't take long for Pybus to make a decision.

"Once Auburn offered me it was really simple," he said. "It was tough leading up to that. Always talked about patience and waiting on God, and God made me wait. It turned out good for me."

Pybus has exceeded expectations since arriving on campus this June. He showed the coaches enough toughness and ability to earn a key spot on special teams coming out of two-a-days.
