Inside the numbers: Fresno State

MADSION, Wis. - After escaping the Valley with a hard-fought 13-10 win, the Badgers improved their season record to 3-0 and claimed victory in what many thought would be a loss. With the result, UW has yet to lose a regular season non-conference game with head coach Bret Bielema at the helm.

The following looks inside the numbers of the Badgers-Bulldogs contest on Saturday night:

50: Years it has been since UW defeated a ranked non-conference opponent on the road. UW won 20-0 at No. 15 Miami, Sept. 26, 1958.

10: Fewest number of points Fresno State has scored at home since 1986 when they beat Pacific 10-9.

13.7: The number of points the Badger defense has allowed over their first three games. In 2007, UW allowed 21.7 points in their first three contests, an 8 point difference from this season.

10-2: Fresno State head coach Pat Hill's new record in season openers after being beaten by UW.

154: Number of rushing yards UW was able to accumulate against the Bulldogs.

150: Number of passing yards combined from both Allan Evridge and Dustin Sherer. The 154 rushing yards and 150 passing yards represent the Badgers most balanced offensive game so far in 2008.

343: Total offense Fresno State had Saturday night, marking the first time the Badgers were out gained by their opponent in 2008.

7: Number of times UW was flagged for penalties against Fresno State. Those penalties cost the Badgers 53 yards of field position Saturday night.

2: Number of penalties Fresno was whistled for, costing them 15 yards.

33.8: Yards per punt freshman punter Brad Nortman kicked for Saturday night. In the first two games of his career, Nortman averaged just over 50 yards per punt. Overall, he has a 40.4 yard average.

1.5: Number of yards the Badger punt return unit allows per punt. For kickoffs, the UW special teams has limited opponents to 20.2 yards per return.

82% When UW gets into the red-zone, they score 82 percent (14-17) of the time. Of those 17 attempts, 12 have been touchdowns.

379: Yards P.J. Hill has for the season on 70 attempts. Good for a 5.4 yard average per carry. His 126.3 yards per game are good for 8th best in the country.

154: Yards UW's leading receiver Garrett Graham has so far this season.

2: Number of sacks defensive end O'Brien Schofield has to lead the team.

27: Number of tackles middle linebacker Jaevery McFadden has in his first three games at the position. The next closest tackler on UW's defense is DeAndre Levy who has 18.

4: Number of tackles for loss Levy has, all of which came at Fresno State. He leads the team in that category.
