Video: Norman, Renaissance pitch shutout in opener

DETROIT - Michigan State commitments Chris Norman and Dana Dixon played key roles in Detroit Renaissance's 23-0 season-opening win over Detroit Cooley last week.

Norman led the Phoenix with 9 tackles while Dixon turned in an excellent all-around performance on both sides of the ball at corner and wide receiver respectively.

Dixon was supposed to start the opener at safety, but some late personnel shuffling on the Renaissance defense led to a start at cornerback for the 6-foot-3 Spartan commitment.

Dixon led the team in pass break-ups and had a couple near interceptions. He also had a couple of nice catches including a tough grab along the sidelines in which he got both feet down in-bounds with the ball under control.

Afterwards, staffer Rico Beard caught up with the future Spartans. He also spoke with rising senior Delano Collins who is making a quick transition to football after spending the summer playing on the AAU basketball circuit.

Collins had a strong game against Cooley on both sides of the ball. His afternoon included a touchdown for the Phoenix.
