Allen to decide this week

Drew Allen hasn't set a date for his commitment.

However, the quarterback from San Antonio, Texas, has set a timeframe.

"My decision will happen before or on my birthday," Allen said Sunday. "No later."

Allen's birthday is Sunday, Aug. 17.

Allen had talked about making an announcement tomorrow and recently, he had indicated he might wait as late as Aug. 25. His team begins practice tomorrow and classes on the 25th.

"I don't plan on (making a decision Monday)," Allen said. "We start football tomorrow. I kind of have my mind off recruiting right now."

Allen's decision might have been complicated a bit in recent weeks. Oklahoma presented a scholarship offer earlier this month, and the 6-foot-5 signal-caller took a second trip to Norman, Okla., over the weekend to see what the Sooners have to offer.

"It was cool," Allen said. "They treated me really nice and paid a lot of attention to me."

Allen has checked out Wake Forest, Vanderbilt and Purdue during the spring and summer, but it appears that Ole Miss and Oklahoma are the top two schools in the race for his college services.

On Sunday, Allen wasn't tipping his hand regarding which school leads the way for his signature.

"I have a great relationship with Ole Miss coaches and OU has a great winning tradition with coach (Bob) Stoops," Allen said.
