Video: Kalin Lucas at Lebron James Skills Academy

Spartan sophomore Kalin Lucas was one of more than two dozen top college basketball players invited to take part in the 2008 Lebron James Skills Academy.

Lucas and the other college all-stars in Akron for the Lebron James Skills Academy spent time mentoring the elite high school players invited to the camp. The college campers also worked closely with coaches from Team USA on improving their skills.

SpartanMag.com was in Akron to watch Michigan State recruiting targets like Jamil Wilson, Glenn Bryant, and Roger Franklin. But we also took some time to watch Lucas playing pick-up basketball with other college campers and watching him take part in position drills.

On July 7, SpartanMag.com ran interviews with ESPN analysts Jay Bilas and Fran Fraschilla. Both Bilas and Fraschilla were coaches at the Lebron James Skills Academy and each were complimentary of Lucas' s ability as a basketball player.

Bilas felt that Lucas was the quickest player in Akron out of a talented field of guards that included Syracuse sophomore Jonny Flynn, Kent State's Al Fisher, and Memphis freshman Tyreke Evans among others.

Fraschilla said that it was a joy to work with a well-coached player like Lucas and predicted that the Spartan sophomore would emerge as one of the top point guards in the nation this season.

Lucas is one of a number of Spartans that have been college campers at the Lebron Skills Academy and Nike All-American Camp when the event was held in Indianapolis, Ind. Drew Neitzel, Shannon Brown, and Maurice Ager each participated in the event as college campers.
