Video: Dantonio at Big Ten Media Days

CHICAGO - Michigan State head football coach Mark Dantoniowas the first speaker of the afternoon session as Big Ten head coaches took turns answering questions at the Big Ten Media Days in Chicago.

During his opening statement, Dantonio touched on the successes that his football team has had during the last year as well as the need for the Spartans to take another step forward this season.

Last year at the podium, Dantonio said the goal for his team was to get to a bowl game. This year, the Spartans have loftier aspirations. Dantonio wants Michigan State to compete for a Big Ten championship.

The second-year Spartan football coach also mentioned the success his team has had on the recruiting trail thus far. He said that he has never been associated with a program that has had this many commitments this early and indicated that the football players are committing earlier than have ever done before.

Dantonio did not mention any recruits by name, but mentioned that he thought that his team would bringing in two excellent running backs and a top quarterback as well as a very good linebacker and o-line class.

Dantonio was asked about Michigan State the media's pick as a potential darkhorse in the Big Ten.

The Spartan head coach was also asked about Javon Ringer and the other running backs that will share time with him in the Spartan backfield.
