Rebels after Bass in Georgia

If college recruiter interest in a prospect were a major contributing factor in rankings, it would be a given that Ellenwood (Cedar Grove HS), Ga. defensive linemen Vinson Bass is grossly underrated.

When asked about schools showing interest, the currently three-star rated Bass apparently picked up a stack of letters and began reeling off names of schools he's hearing from - West Virginia, Miami, Connecticut, Indiana, South Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina State, Ole Miss, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Alabama, Auburn, Purdue, Memphis, and Illinois.

Ole Miss, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, South Carolina and South Florida, and UCF have extended offers with a report that Alabama could also be close to joining that group.

Bass, a 6-foot-3, 265 pound prospect with 4.8 speed in the 40-yard dash, recorded 97 tackles, 20 tackles for a loss and eight sacks last fall.

Despite all the attention from recruiters, Bass remains less than excited about the recruiting process.

"Everybody's the same," Bass said when asked if he has a favorite. "I'm just going to take it slow, see how the season goes, see which teams are interested in me, then take my five official visits. I'll have to look at the schools before I decide which five I'll visit."

"Vinson doesn't keep up much with recruiting because he is trying to get some other things squared away like his academics," Cedar Grove coach Roy Bonner recently told BamaOnLine.com. "We want him to focus on his schoolwork and keep working hard in the weight room. He should make it academically but he has some work to do."

Bass said that he hasn't attended any camps this summer, which makes his offer and interest list even that much more impressive.

Bass says that he has heard from Rebel defensive line coach Tracy Rocker, who recruits the Atlanta area where Ellenwood is located.

However, like the rest of the schools, Ole Miss is yet to stand out for Bass.

"Ole Miss might be one of the schools that I visit, I don't know now," Bass said. "I've just got to look at the schools. I don't know a lot about most of the schools and that's why I've got to look at them."

"I'll probably go through the season and probably won't make a commitment until just before signing day," he said.
