Mershman impressed by LeFevour
Central Michigan currently has one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, and this is helping tremendously in recruiting the next great Chippewa quarterback. Aaron Mershman, of Bowling Green, Ohio, is the latest recipient of an offer from the Chippewas.
The success of Dan LeFevour has not been lost on Aaron.
"Obviously, the possibility of playing behind and learning from Dan is a huge draw. I'm looking for a place where I have an older quarterback to learn from, but I also have an opportunity to play soon. After Dan leaves, the quarterback position is wide open," Aaron told ChippewaCountry.
However, the Chippewas are certainly not the only school requesting Mershman's services. When ChippewaCountry talked with Aaron, he had just gotten back from a camp at North Carolina State.
"I feel like I did real well at the NC State camp. Basically, they told me I was high on their list, and they're definitely in my top three. They're waiting to see what happens with Morgan Newton, who has gotten an offer from Florida. So, I just have to wait and see. But, I'm not going to wait around and say no to all these great MAC schools that have offered me."
Aaron has also attended camps and CMU and Cincinnati.
"I didn't think I had that great of a day at the Cincinnati camp, and I haven't received an offer from them. But, I thought I did real well at the Central Michigan camp."
While at CMU's camp, the campus and the facilities again made an impression on another recruit.
"I thought the facilities and the stadium were great. I like that everything is connected together, even the academic offices are close. I plan to go into psychology, with a minor in exercise science, and CMU offers a good program for that."
Despite being impressed by athletic facilities and the university, Aaron has a great idea for what he wants out of a school.
"Overall, I have found that the facilities and all that are just about the same at every school. It's the people who are there, that's what matters," claims Aaron.
As for the people at CMU, they too have made a solid impression on this talented signal-caller.
"Right now, the people I am hearing from the most are Coach Kolakowski, and Coach Bajakian. Coach Bajakian is a great guy. At camp, he was always coaching me up, he's a real technician and that's what I am looking for. I got a good vibe from the staff."
In addition to being impressed during his time at CMU's camp, Aaron also liked what he saw on his visit.
"I want to go to a school that has a good game day atmosphere. I feel like I can definitely find that at CMU. CMU is heading in the right direction. You can tell Coach Jones is doing a lot with that program. It is a winning program that is going to get better."
As is typical with most recruits this year, Aaron has set a timetable that should be all too familiar with ChippewaCountry fans.
"I plan on making my decision before two-a-days. For me, two-a-days start July 31st so I will be making my decision in the near future. With all of the schools I have offers from, I just need some time to emotionally detach from the situation and weigh all of the pros and cons."
