Signee Profile: Big RB slimming down for AU

Eric Smith

Running back
Seffner (Fla.) Armwood
5-foot-11, 222 pounds

Smith entered his senior season at 240 pounds, but has since lost nearly 20 and is leaned down getting ready for Auburn and its new spread offense. AuburnSports.com spoke with Smith about his weight loss, why he chose Auburn, what his goals are as a freshman and more in the ninth of our profile stories of the 2008 Tiger signees.

On his workout regime: "I've been running and working out, doing a lot of push-ups, bench-press, a lot of squat, power clings, and things of that sort. I run 110s and 175s. I do a lot of those also. It's a mixture of a lot of different things. I run routes also. I have a quarterback going to VMI and we run routes all the time. I'm trying to work on my hands, too. We do cone drills, work on my feet work and stuff like that. I'm working hard, trying to get this weight off of me."

You're down to 222 now, how much do you want to weigh when you report to Auburn? "I want to be as close to 215 as possible. I was at 233 when I first started working out (weeks ago) so I've lost about 11 pounds."

Do you feel more comfortable at a lighter weight? "I do. I feel a lot lighter when I run, a lot quicker. The best season I had was my sophomore year when I was around 215 pounds so that is what I want to be at when I get there."
