WVU staff visiting Akol: Coach Barto

Coach Dan Barto's office at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy has been a busy place this week, and West Virginia will have a visitor or two there before the end of the current open evaluation period is done on midnight Thursday.

Three unsigned big men play for Barto at the Florida high/postgraduate school and the Mountaineers are most interested apparently in 6-foot-10 Sudanese power forward Teeng Akol.

Barto, whose father was friendly with WVU coach Bob Huggins when the elder Barto coached Cincinnati product Danny Fortson at Pittsburgh Shaler, said Tuesday afternoon that the second-year Mountaineer coach would be in Florida on Wednesday to chat about Akol, who came to America in November of 2005 and played Centerreach (N.Y.) Our Savior Academy before transferring.
