Todd may miss time with injury

Auburn offensive coordinator Tony Franklin wants to find a starting quarterback - or at least a top two - before the end of spring practice.

But Chris Todd's nagging shoulder could make that task more difficult.

Todd, a junior-college transfer, is one of four quarterbacks competing for the top job in spring practice. But his competition with Kodi Burns, Neil Caudle and DeRon Furr has hit a snag.

Shoulder problems have bothered Todd since last season, when he missed at least two games at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, according to Franklin. The exact nature of the injury isn't clear. Neither is Todd's status for the remainder of the spring.

"He felt like with good rehab he would be ready to go but it's quite evident that he's not," Franklin said.

But one thing is certain: The injury is affecting Todd's performance. Franklin, who coached Todd as a high-schooler in Elizabethtown (Ky.), is sure of that.

"It's not the kid that I remember throwing the football," Franklin said. "He's got a long way to go to get healthy. I don't know when he'll get healthy, but it's probably not going to happen in the spring."

Franklin isn't sure if Todd will miss practice time. That decision will be left to Auburn's medical staff.

"It might be that he just needs to keep throwing and maybe that will help," Franklin said. "I don't know."

But something is clearly wrong.
