Mississippi DL reels in offers
It may be more than 11 months away from the next signing class, but Philadelphia, Miss. defensive line prospect Josh Boyd has already accumulated an impressive offer sheet.
He's received written offers from Ole Miss, Alabama, Mississippi State, and Southern Miss. Michigan has made a verbal offer.
"All of them (the offers) came in around the same time, maybe a couple of weeks ago," Boyd said.
Boyd is a 6-foot-3, 275-pound defensive end with an impressive 365-pound bench press and 600-pound deadlift and runs an impressive 4.85 40-yard dash. He had an impressive 154 tackles with eight sacks last year as a junior.
Despite the offers, Boyd appears unfazed and deliberate about the recruiting process.
"I really don't have any favorites," he said. "I like all of the schools that have offered."
He also is interested in one school that is yet to offer.
"Auburn hasn't offered but is sending letters and stuff," Boyd said. "I like them pretty good and I also kind of like Florida."
Boyd said he really didn't grow up as a fan of any particular school and location will not be a factor in his decision.
"I think the most important thing is playing time, I'd like to be playing either my first year or in my second year," he said. "Getting a good education is also important to me."
When it comes to junior days and summer camps, Boyd doesn't have any plans at this time.
"I'd like to go to the junior days and camps of the in-state schools," he said. "But I'll likely go to camps and stuff wherever the coaches take me."
Boyd said he has never been to the Ole Miss campus and looks forward to his first visit either on junior day or at camp this summer.
Boyd is unsure of his GPA and took the ACT for the first time a couple of weeks ago. His high school coach said he has a 2.5 GPA.
