Thornton's 38 lifts LSU over Auburn
Marcus Thornton scored a career-high 38 points including a 3-pointer in the final seconds left as LSU pulled out an 81-80 win over Auburn Wednesday night at Beard-Eaves Coliseum.
Thornton made 8-of-15 3-pointers including the game-winner from the left wing with four seconds remaining. The junior added seven rebounds.
"I thought we played very well tonight," said AU head coach Jeff Lebo. "We just got beat by one guy who was absolutely as good as anybody I've seen in a long time. He was making unbelievably tough shots.
"My hats off to Thornton. I've seen him go off like that for portions of games but never the full game like that. That was an incredible performance by him."
Auburn held a 5-point lead with 1:19 remaining after consecutive 3-pointers by Quan Prowell and DeWayne Reed but Thornton answered with a 3-pointer with 55 seconds remaining to close AU's lead to 80-78.
