Florida WR returns from Iowa

Wide receiver Derek Winter is back home in Florida after making an official visit to Iowa over the weekend. The 6-foot-0, 178-pound Winter, who attends Plant High School in Tampa, said he enjoyed his two days in Iowa City.

Winter's host on the official visit was redshirt freshman quarterback Rick Stanzi. Along with getting to know the players and coaches, the two-star prospect also toured the facilities and campus at the University of Iowa.

Winter, who had an offer from the Hawkeyes going into the visit, said Iowa continues to be right there in the mix to land his commitment.

Also in the mix right now are Georgia Tech, Virginia, and South Florida. Winter actually received a scholarship offer from Virginia after returning home from Iowa City on Sunday and plans Charlottesville this coming weekend.

With signing day quickly approaching, Winter plans to make his decision shortly after his visit to Virginia this weekend.

As a senior, Winter caught 75 passes for 1,686 yards and 18 touchdowns. After leading Plant to an 11-2 record, he was named first team all-state and also received the Guy Toph Award as the top player in Hillsborough County. For his career, Winter finished with 192 catches for 3,717 yards and 44 touchdowns.
