Auburn comes up short in SEC opener
Auburn couldn't connect on two game-tying 3-point attempts with under a minute to play as Arkansas hung on for a 76-70 win over the Tigers at Beard-Eaves Coliseum in the SEC opener for both squads.
Trailing 73-70, AU's Quantez Robertson missed an uncontested 3-pointer from the left wing with 49 seconds remaining. The ball was rebounded by Rasheem Barrett who found Quan Prowell at the top of the key but his 3-pointer bounced off the rim.
Arkansas added a free throw and a layup with one second remaining for the final margin.
"We had two great shots to tie it there and just missed them," said AU head coach Jeff Lebo.
"We had some good looks at the bucket but didn't have any luck putting the ball in the basket."
Auburn shot 9-of-35 from 3-point range on the night including just 4-of-20 in the second half. Prowell finished with 13 points but made just 1-of-6 from beyond the arc.
