Tim Thompson's ''One Thing,'' part two

In part two of our weekly "one thing" segment with Vanderbilt basketball color commentator Tim Thompson, VandySports.com's Chris Lee asks Thompson about the play of Shan Foster and Alan Metcalfe, the Commodores' match-up with Georgia Tech and his thoughts on Kentucky's early struggles.

CL: "What's the difference in Alan Metcalfe this year?"

TT:
"Well, I think they key thing is that there is absolutely no pressure on Alan Metcalfe. Last year, he was the starter right out of the gate. He felt like he had to do certain things in order for the team to be successful, and I think he has engaged himself and really likes the situation in which he's coming off the bench, because Andrew Ogilvy, now, is the starter.

"Alan knows he's the guy coming off the bench. All he has to do is come in and give three to four minutes at a stretch, and just play solid basketball-defend, rebound, make shots, if you've got shots, take them-but don't do anything that is outside of what you're capable of doing.

"I think he understands his role right now, and I think that's one of the most important things going for this team is Alan Metcalfe being able to give A.J. Ogilvy a lot of rest, and put him in a situation where he's fresh all the time."
