Backfield excited about Nutt's hiring

With Houston Nutt on his way to Oxford, you can almost hear the Rebel backfield let out a collective sigh.

Despite returning a talented group of receivers and a highly touted quarterback, members of the Ole Miss backfield no what Nutt's been able to do with Arkansas.

"The prospect of having a much wider role in the offense definitely excites me - no doubt," fullback Jason Cook said.

Cook said the coaching change is for the better.

"It's human nature not to like change, but I think in this case, change is going to be a good thing. Especially as a player, you get excited when a guy gets hired like Coach Nutt," Cook said. "He's more than proven in the SEC and proven as a coach that he can take talent and work with it. We're very excited."

Running back Cordera Eason said he's trying not to get too worked up about his role in Nutt's offense.

As far as what I'm seeing, he likes running the ball, and people say I should be excited. But who knows what it'll happen. We still have Jevan Snead," Eason said. "We can open up the offense a lot. I have no problems with just sharing the rock - me and Snead.

"I see the success that Darren McFadden and Felix Jones had, so I'm kind of excited about that. But at the same time, we also got great people on the team also to share the ball with."

And with a coach like Nutt at the helm, Eason's excited to get started.

"We have great talent on both sides of the ball, offense and defense," Eason said. "A new coach, hopefully he can come around and make it a better program and whatnot. Just looking forward to seeing what kind of coaching style he's going to have and excited to see what's going to happen."

Cook said he doesn't know a whole bunch about how things will operate under Nutt, but from what he's seen, things are looking up.

"Being out there, you do get the sense that he's someone who really cares for his guys," Cook said. "That's something that's important as a head coach.

"But he's also doing things with that team where the guys look like they're enjoying themselves."
