Inside the Valparaiso game

Vanderbilt used a 19-point second half from Andrew Ogilvy to erase a three-point deficit and beat Valparaiso on Monday night. We take a look at that game, and some happenings within Commodores hoops, in today's basketball notebook.


Ogilvy the early go-to guy
It's odd to see a team that starts three quality seniors and is generally known for its 3-point shooting look to a freshman center when they need points. Yet, the Commodores unquestionably looked to freshman Ogilvy when they needed baskets last night.

Ogilvy wasn't a factor in the first half after scoring the game's opening bucket. He missed his next three shots and drew a pair of fouls that kept him on the bench for 10 minutes in the opening period.

And when Ogilvy picked up No. 3 at the 19:49 mark of the second half, Coach Kevin Stallings decided it would be a good idea to sit him for a while.

"I think in the first half, A.J. got frustrated 'cause he got the shots that he wanted, but they weren't going down, 'cause either his touch was off or he was getting fouled. And that led to some of his fouls, the charge," senior forward Ross Neltner said.
