No. 1 Tar Heels pound Iona

Top-ranked Carolina rolled to a 107-72 victory against Iona in the first round of the Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Invitational on Sunday night a the Smith Center.

Carolina (2-0) will play South Carolina State at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Tar Heels' next game. UNC is then scheduled to play Old Dominion at 11:55 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday in Las Vegas.

Iona (0-3) tried to slow UNC with a zone defense, but the Tar Heels went to their All-American, Tyler Hansbrough. Hansbrough finished with a game-high 27 points on 8-of-12 shooting. He sank 11 of 15 free throws.

"One of the points I made tonight was to assert myself," Hansbrough said, "and let it lead through the whole game."

Carolina also hit six of 12 first-half three-point shots in addition to Hansbrough's scoring.

Hansbrough scored more point than minutes played. He logged the most of any Tar Heel with 26 minutes, but he sat for the final nine minutes of the game.
