Up close with Toney McCray

With the start of the basketball season just around the corner, we at HuskersIllustrated.com will go up close with each of the newcomers in Nebraska's 2007 recruiting class.

Today we catch up with Missouri City (Texas) Elkins High's Toney McCray who is a 6-foot-6 shooting guard. We get his thoughts about adjusting to life in Lincoln, playing for Husker head coach Doc Sadler and his goals for the season.

What did you do this summer?
"I worked out with the strength and conditioning coach in the weight room to get strength for the coming season. It helped a me lot, as far as strength-wise, and being in condition. I've put on about ten pounds since I've been here this summer. I also took a few classes. It helped a lot coming here this summer."

Why did you choose to play for Nebraska?
"Well, Doc Sadler was probably the main reason. I had a lot of other coaches who said some of the same things Doc Sadler said, but they didn't have the respect of the other players that he had. He talked about hard work and I liked that. Those are the reasons why I came here."

What is the biggest difference about living in Lincoln?
"Things out here are a little slower. In a lot of cities in Texas things move faster. Also, the weather. It's way colder here. Those are the main things that are different."
