Shannon: There's a lot of memories
There will be plenty of emotion this Saturday in the last-ever game at the Orange Bowl.
"There's a lot of memories," Shannon said. "The first time I went Flipper was jumping up and down in the end zone. Then, when I stated playing there, it was always the crowd, the enthusiasm, that atmosphere that was always good. Coaching-wise we've won championships there. I've been a part of a lot of things at the Orange Bowl, which is unique. You're going to miss those things, but sometimes you have to start something else new. When this is over with we'll start a new era at the University of Miami. I look forward to that."
Shannon added, "I'll be excited after the game, when we win I'll be really excited. The players have to play with a lot of emotion this game. It's the last game for these seniors. They're going to fired up, run around and have fun. They're going to have to play with a lot of emotion this week."
Miami needs another victory to become bowl eligible, and this weekend's game against Virginia might be the best chance to get a win. The final two games of the year are on the road at Virginia Tech and Boston College.
Of facing Virginia, Shannon said, "It's an opportunity for us to get back on a win streak. It's going to be a challenge for us. Virginia is playing very well on offense and defense, aren't making very many mistakes. They've given up some deep balls, but they're playing the run game very well. Offensively their quarterback is the key to the offense. They came out with a big-time victory last week. They're on all cylinders right now. We have to step up to the challenge, focus on what we're trying to get done and work hard. We have to come with the total package this weekend and get the fans into the game. It's a night game, the enthusiasm should be there with the fans."
The team is expected to have quarterback Kyle Wright back for this game. Kirby Freeman struggled with Wright out with a sprained ankle and knee last weekend - Freeman completed only one pass in the loss to NC State.
