Beasley shines in exhibition victory
After months of anticipation, the Michael Beasley show arrived in Manhattan on Saturday. It did not disappoint any of the 5,628 in attendance at Bramlage Coliseum. Beasley scored a game-high 35 points and led the Wildcats to a 95-59 victory over Fort Hays State in Frank Martin's K-State head coaching debut.
"That's who we recruited," Martin said, when asked if he expected such a performance from the freshman. "There's a reason that we worked as hard as we did in recruiting him. Offensively, he's a very efficient basketball player."
Showing off the multifaceted game that had him ranked as one of the top recruits in the nation, Beasley also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, picked six steals, and blocked four shots. The stats, though, mean little, Martin said.
"He's not into his numbers," Martin said. "He's not into anything but winning."
