Notes on Bruin hoops

The Bruins only have 11 players on scholies going into the season and one of them, James Keefe won't be participating until December limiting UCLA to only 10 scholarship players to practice with and open the season. Even though the Bruins are a little banged up going into the season the Bruins have a lot to be excited about.

The Bruins return a core group of players who have been to the final four that last two seasons in a row. To add to the merriment, they added arguably the best high school player in the nation when Kevin Love signed on the dotted line with the Bruins.

The word is about Love he is as good as advertized.

Of course UCLA coach Ben Howland was asked about Love at today's Pac 10 media day.

"Kevin is a really good low post scorer," Howland said. "He really knows how to use his body. He really does a great job sealing his body and that something a lot of kids it takes awhile to learn to do. He comes in already knowing how to do that.

"Kevin has great hands, great feet, great skill level on the offensive end and the thing that strikes me the most about Kevin is what a hard worker and great teammate he is," Howland said. "He's really a good teammate. It's all about winning and really has a great work ethic and a desire to reach his potential.
