The Good, Bad and Ugly
THE GOODThe Bearcats were able to win 76-71 despite not playing their best. Even though some might think it was an ugly victory a win is a win. This team needs to learn how to face and overcome adversity. That is exactly what they did last night. Last year this is the type of game where the Bearcats would have lost in the end.
Last year the Bearcats lost a few too many games by not being able to make free throws in crunch time. Against NKU that was not the case. With 27 seconds left on the clock and the Bearcats holding a 70-68 advantage over NKU Sophomore guard Deonta Vaughn hit 6 straight free throws to help secure the victory for the Bearcats.
The bench scored a total of 33 points against NKU. Last season the bench really struggled to contribute.
The Bearcats were able to score 55 of their 76 points from free throws and in the paint. If they continue this trend it will be a good year for the Bearcats.
The play of freshman Center Anthony McClain . He scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds with 3 of those rebounds being offensive in 22 minutes of action. The big man from New Jersey showed a soft touch from the paint and he even hit a 17 foot jump shot from the top of the key. However, the most impressive thing to me was in the press conference when he said "If we come out and play like we did tonight against Syracuse and UCONN we would have lost by 30 points."
