Roland steps into leadership role

According to his teammates, Justin Roland was born to lead. Still, the decision to name the senior one of Kansas State's captains this season had some fans scratching their heads. All the itching has come to a screeching halt since, however, as the senior is having a very captain-like season in 2007, and Roland says filling his new role hasn't been much of a challenge.

"It's easy to lead a team like this because everyone is a good follower. You don't have to tell anyone twice," Roland said of handling the responsibilities the title of captain carries with it.

And while the senior says leading the Wildcats in the locker room is an easy a task, the reach of his guidance extends onto the football field, where his leadership isn't about talking. Roland has shown a knack for leading by example in 2007, recording 47 tackles, and his performance on the field has commanded the respect of every player that has stepped foot on the field alongside him.

"(Roland) is getting eight or nine tackles a game for us," said fellow linebacker Ian Campbell. "Anytime you can do that in the Big 12, you're playing some good ball. Him and I have grown close over the last couple months, and I've learned a lot from him."
