Shannon: Back to work after big win

The morning after the Hurricanes' come-from-behind 37-29 victory over Florida State, UM President Donna Shalala greeted coach Randy Shannon outside the football office and gave him a big hug.

It was all smiles on campus.

But Shannon doesn't want his team to enjoy this too much.

"They know that now, what we've done, to get it to this point is staying focused without getting too upbeat and relying on what you did in the past," Shannon said. "You're either going to go up or down, aren't going to stay the same. If you're feeling good about yourself and everybody's going to pat you on the back, `Great game!' it's over with. You can't fall into that trap."

Shannon is ready to get back to work. With a bye week, the team returns to practice on Tuesday.

The bye means this team will have time to rest some banged up players.

Both quarterback Kyle Wright and Kirby Freeman were shaken up.

Wright (left ankle/knee) has said he will be okay for the next game against NC State, and Shannon echoed that.

Of Freeman, Shannon said, "Kirby will be okay. He might have had the wind knocked out of him."
