Vellano looking forward to arrival

New York defensive lineman and Terps legacy Joe Vellano didn't take grayshirting this semester sitting down.

In fact, anything but.

When the Christian Brothers Academy (NY) lineman injured his shoulder near the end of last season, the writing was on the wall that he would be a good candidate for a 'grayshirt.'

After successful surgery to repair damaged ligaments he was put on the shelf until April, which meant he couldn't do any lifting or much working out. Since then Vellano has been as involved in the game as much as he has ever been.

Not wanting to sit around and only lift while out for the fall semester, Vellano has been taking nine transferable credits at Hudson Valley Community College, and helping coach the offensive and defensive lines at his high school.

"It keeps me in the game and the classes help me to stay in school mode," said Vellano one day this month between classes. "I can't wait to get down to Maryland in January and start working out with the team, but for now I'm still involved with football."
