McDonough jams with Midnight Madness
October 13, 2007 - Last night was a celebration of Georgetown Basketball at the school's venerable McDonough Arena, as well over 2,000 attendees celebrated the program outside and inside of the facility, for the school's fourth Midnight Madness celebration. Prior to the event, the national coverage of ESPN, hosted by noted hoops commentator Bill Rafferty, took the lion share of focus for some, but once it began, Hoya Hoops ruled the evening.
That domination occurred to such a degree that actual basketball playing by the men's and women's teams - coached by John Thompson III and Terri-Williams-Flournoy respectively - was neither extensive nor missed.
How you ask? Well, in addition to the traditional student contests and group performances, and of course the requisite dramatic player introductions, two very important unveilings occurred: Not only was former standout Jeff Green's professional uniform added to the school's Jersey Wall - all of the Hoyas who have been drafted into the National Basketball Association have their first team's jersey presented there - but the 2007 Final Four banner was revealed as well.
And of course there was the dancing, led per ritual, by Thompson. G'Town's men's coach not only cut a rug individually and in tandem with Willams-Flournoy, but directed both male and female players in showing their dancing skills.
