Murphy eager for his chance at Texas

While a mob of students rushed the field at Bill Snyder Family Stadium following the biggest Kansas State victory of 2006, a young man was struggling with an equally large decision. While his eyes gazed over the sea of purple that rapidly consumed the field, however, his mind was immediately made up. And so began the K-State story of wide receiver Deon Murphy, and the tale has been a thriller thus far.

Murphy is the Wildcats' second option at receiver in 2007, and is currently ranked first in the conference in punt return yards, but Murphy's hot start may have happened in another team's uniform had it not been for the impeccable timing of his campus visit.

"That was one of the most exciting moments of my life," Murphy said of last year's Texas game." It was a D-I game right there in my face, and then to see the team that was recruiting me win was great. I decided right then and there. I told Coach Prince right there."

Murphy has made quite an impact since deciding on K-State during last November's win against Texas, and Wildcat fans can now thank the Longhorns for every big punt return the junior college transfer breaks. As much as Murphy enjoyed watching last year's game in Manhattan, however, he says his experience as a spectator pales in comparison to preparing himself to actually step on the field against Texas during the 2007 version of the game.
